Au Pair in China

Introduction

Chinese families hiring an au pair want to expose their children to English language. As an au pair you become a member of Chinese family for three up to twelve months. Besides teaching Chinese siblings English you also have the opportunity to learn Chinese and to participate in everyday life of your host family. Thanks to that, you will have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and plenty of unforgettable memories of traveller and member of Chinese family. Remember that each family is different. Each host family has its own habits, schedule, preferences and lifestyle so every au pair's experience in China will differ as well. Nonetheless, we try our best to match au pairs and host families by their interests, expectations and preferences because we want to make sure that both sides will be able to live together happily and to have an unforgettable adventure of their lives.

Responsibilities

You spend most of the time with your Chinese siblings. You look after them, play with them and teach them English. You also expose them to Western manners and culture. So you are their private teacher and their elder sibling. As a member of a family you also help with simple household duties like cleaning after meals or cleaning your room. Most of Chinese families hiring an au pair are rich ones so they usually have their own housekeeper.

Au Pair training

Before moving into your Chinese family, you have the au pair training to prepare you for being an au pair. Not only will you get to know how to be a good au pair and how to teach Chinese children English, but you will be also introduced to the rules of everyday life in Chinese family. After the training it will be easier for you to look after your Chinese siblings and to get used to the cultural differences. The duration of the au pair intensive training depends on your skills and needs. Usually it takes 4-7 days, but it can be also extended individually, if wanted. Never be afraid to ask questions. Chinese everyday habits will differ from those of your home country, such as drinking hot water, shared style of eating, eating out quite often and having lunch quite early. This course is meant to give you orientation and to prevent you from making the most common mistakes.
